Acting consciously for a better tomorrow
Sustainability at the Gapphof in Lagundo
The Gapphof is our home. And that’s exactly why it’s important to us to treat our surroundings with care.
For us, sustainability means more than just saving energy or using regional products. It is reflected in many of our decisions: in the cultivation of our organic apples, in our natural garden, in our breakfast boxes, and in our respectful approach to the natural cycle of our organic farm.
Some of these approaches may not always be the easiest or most convenient, but they align with our belief in working with nature, not against it.
Lagundo is currently undergoing the process of becoming a certified sustainable destination. We’re happy to be part of the development and to do our part.
What is important to us
To ensure our the vitality of our farm for the future
Every living thing belongs on our farm - from the tiniest beneficial insects to our own farm animals.
Our bees provide us with precious honey for our guests and are also indispensable for pollinating our apple trees and many other plants. Our chickens are also an important part of the farm’s ecosystem: They roam freely across the farmyard and meadows, provide us with fresh eggs, and naturally aerate and fertilize our soil.
This also means letting nature take its own course. When a fox stops by or new residents like frogs, toads, or even a completely harmless grass snake settle by our natural swimming pond, we don’t see it as a problem - but rather as a sign of a thriving ecosystem. Together with dragonflies, these little residents help maintain the natural balance at the pond and, for example, keep mosquito populations in check.
Instead of a traditional breakfast buffet, we offer you breakfast boxes filled with our own products and local specialities. This way, only what’s truly needed makes it to the table. We’d rather leave something out than compromise on origin or quality. Any leftovers can be enjoyed later as a snack for a hike or for dinner. This is how we prevent food waste.
We use reusable containers in our breakfast boxes and fill them with selected products directly from the farm, from Lagundo, and from regional partners.
With our photovoltaic system and solar panels, we generate renewable energy right here on the farm. You can also charge electric cars here.
When it comes to indoor climate control, we also rely on natural solutions. We deliberately avoid using air conditioning and instead use our underfloor heating to cool the apartments in the summer. Cold water flows through the pipes, keeping the apartments at a comfortable temperature while saving energy.
Our tap water is of the highest drinking water quality and is safe to drink straight from the faucet in your holiday rental. When you’re out and about, we also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle instead of buying plastic bottles. In the village itself, there are numerous water refill stationswhere you can always fill your bottles with fresh spring water.
Our natural swimming pond requires no chemical treatment. The garden is irrigated with water from the Adige River, and in our organic apple orchards, we rely on water-saving drip irrigation.
Our natural garden thrives on its biodiversity. We deliberately plant a wide variety of plants and herbs to provide insects with plenty of food sources and habitats. We also compost our own garden waste, which is then returned to the garden’s cycle.
With the Südtirol Guest Pass Algund, you can easily explore South Tyrol by public transportation. The bus and train stop is very close by, so you can leave your car parked during your holiday.
For us, sustainability also means taking responsibility for people and the environment. That’s why we use EcoLab-certified products when cleaning the apartments and make sure to use resources responsibly. At the same time, our “multicultural” team is an important part of the Gapphof: people from different cultures contribute their experience and personality. They live in the village and ride their bikes to work.
