The Gapphof has been a certified organic apple farm since 2019. Farmer Christian tends to the apple orchards surrounding our farm with holiday apartments in Algund/Lagundo with expertise and passion.
For us, organic means taking a closer look: at the plants, at the soil, and at the many beneficial insects in the meadows and garden. But it also means thinking and acting with the future in mind. As a Bioland-certified farm, we undergo strict annual inspections.
To me, “organic” means doing the right thing every day, even if it’s often the more time-consuming route.
Organic by conviction
We grow organic apples - Gala, Stark, and Natyra - in our own orchards. The fungus-resistant Prior grapevine variety also grows among the apple orchards.
Our organic farming is based on natural cycles. We use only organic fertilizers and natural pesticides and work in harmony with the seasons. We take care to preserve habitats and promote biodiversity around our orchards. We’d be happy to tell you more about it during a farm tour.
A farm bursting with life
Every year, we plant many different kinds of flowers among our apple trees. They provide a vital habitat for many insects and make our orchards a place teeming with diversity.
Our chickens are also part of farm life. During the day, they roam freely around the farm and in the meadows, pecking at fresh grass and earthworms, and quite conveniently, naturally help fertilize our soil. It’s not until evening that they return to their coop and provide us with fresh eggs.
