To the Kofelraster lakes in the Ultental/Val d’Ultimo valley
Gourmet hike
This hike leads to one of the most beautiful lakes in the Val d’Ultimo valley, a side valley of Merano.
Directions
We start at the parking lot below the Steinrast mountain restaurant, above Kuppelwies. At first, we hike up a fairly steep slope toward the Kühberg Alm (2,060 m), which we reach after about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
We then continue across cow pastures and beautiful alpine meadows toward the Kofelraster lakes, which we reach after another 350 meters of elevation gain and about 1.5 hours. We walk quietly past grazing cows, keeping a safe distance so as not to disturb the cows and calves.
Once we arrive at the lakes at 2,400 m, we’re already looking forward to taking a dip in the cool, fresh mountain lake. For those who still have some energy left, we recommend the hike up to the nearby Hoher Dieb (2,730 m), which is also easily manageable with a dog.
We take the same route back and stop at the Kühberg Alm for a delicious Knödeltris and a slice of apple strudel.
