Winter hike to the Eggergrub Alm
In good weather and snow conditions, this hike is easily manageable without snowshoes but with sturdy winter hiking boots, as the trail is groomed for hikers on two and four legs.
Directions
We start at the paid parking lot in Stulles, just before the Hochegg settlement. A free parking lot is located a bit further down (about a 20-minute walk).
Passing by farmsteads, we head into the forest and soon come to a well-trodden trail. Mayla is thrilled by the snow; the cool temperatures don’t bother her at all. After leaving the forest, we cross the Stuller Mahdern (mountain meadows) and ascend gently to the Eggergrub Alm without much elevation gain.
At the alpine pasture, the flag flutters in the wind and smoke rises from the chimney. In gorgeous weather, we enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of homemade cake on the sunny terrace. Afterward, we hike back the same way, while Mayla has fun throwing snowballs.
Tip: The trail can be icy in places - so be sure to bring crampons.
