Snowshoe hike to the Zendleser Kofel
A snow-covered winter hike in the Val di Funes valley with views of the Gruppo delle Odle peaks
Directions
The hike begins at the Zanser Alm parking lot in St. Magdalena in the Val di Funes valley. The Zendleser Kofel is also a popular ski touring destination in winter, so you may encounter other ski tourers - your dog should be used to this.
First, we’ll walk in winter boots toward the Wörndle Lochalm and on to the Kaserill Alm (1,920 m), which is partially open in winter. From here, we’ll continue the ascent on snowshoes. For our dog Mayla, we’ve brought paw balm to protect her paws from ice and the cold.
The ascent to the summit is quite steep; we follow the wide, well-trodden trails left by ski tourers, which makes progress much easier. At the summit, a beautiful panorama and an impressive view of the Geislerspitzen await us. After a short rest, we soon head back down due to the chilly winter wind.
The descent follows the same trail we took on the way up.
Tip: Bring very warm, windproof clothing; don’t forget paw balm and snowshoe gear.
